Westward's first episode sets the tone for the strip with a classic tale of space exploration tempered by the fickleness of human nature and the cold impartiality of happenstance. It also introduces several plot elements that will be of great importance later on. The art in this episode starts off rather tentatively, but by the end it's begun to establish a comfortable style.
